This Week In London’s History Monday – 12th May 1967: Pink Floyd stage their ‘Games for May’ concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on the South Bank. The concert is notable for being the first ever live performance to use a quadraphonic sound system. Unfortunately, the use of bubbles and daffodils during the performance stain the carpets and seats, resulting in the band being banned from the venue. Tuesday – 13th May 1966: Alison......

It’s cold outside this week, so it seems like the best plan is to cozy up on the couch and watch some telly. Why would you want to risk frostbite? On TV, Londonist likes: Monday, 12 November I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here (ITV1, 21:00-22:30) It’s off to the jungle yet again with Ant & Dec as they guide a new group of “celebs” through as many disgusting tasks as you’d......

Battersea Power Station’s future remains in doubt as the fantastic hulk of the art-deco building itself remains in sorry dereliction. Yesterday, the Guardian reported that the new owners of the £400m prime 36+ acre riverside site, Treasury Holdings, had scrapped development plans approved by Wandsworth Council in November last year and speculated whether London might be about to lose the four iconic chimneys altogether to yet another bland, luxury, residential development if the Power......

Bobby Gillespie is having a beef with a North-East London pub. Pink Floyd (or you know, probably Eric Prydz) have inspired North London school kids to kick off. There might be another tube strike. And finally Monica Lewinski is job-hunting in London. Photo taken from Chutney Bannister's photostream.......

We like quizzes here at Londonist, but we don't go to nearly enough of them hence this being only our 4th ever quiz review. We're rubbish. Have you been to any good ones recently? Name and location of pub The Three Kings is in fancy Clerkenwell, past Turnmills, down a fancy road opposite a fancy church. We're being bitter as we quite fancied living in the house next door. Your nearest tube is Farringdon......

Formed out of members of Art of Noise & The Auteurs, we first came across Infantjoy while wallowing in 'OMG SARAH NIXEY IS BACK!!!111!!' induced glee a few months ago. Guest starring on their working of 'Silent Night', we were intrigued by this duo who seemed to produce mesmerizing, elegant instrumental music. Almost cinematic sounding, their concept album Where The Night Goes is based on the idea that 'each track takes place at a......

It always happens, doesn't it. Just as we get all excited about Roger Waters doing Dark Side in Denmark than we hear the news that he's doing it over here as well, as part of the Calling Festival in Hyde Park on Friday 30th June. There seem to be some conflicting stories as to what's happening with the Dark Side Of The Moon performance. Currently the Roger Waters International Fanclub talks about a special......

We really should consider a weekly No Shit Sherlock column which this week would be won by the BBC's story that 79% of Londoners rate overcrowded trains as their biggest commuter gripe. So not the drunk drivers, bad armpit smells or hairy loons pleasuring themselves in public then? Oh well. We'd love to know how much Hong Kong's MTR Corporation paid YouGov for the information. Surely a couple of quid on a ticket into......

Bloc Party - Silent Alarm Remixed The bank holiday took a little longer than expected, hence the late delivery of your friendly neighbourhood album review slot. So without further ado... Remix albums are a strange beast that sits in a pen marked Fans And Purists Only. They either tend to be an environmentally unfriendly waste of paper and plastic full of blips, beats and other such noises never intended to be heard over the......

This weekend see the start of another 'popular culture' exhibition at the Proud Gallery in Camden (the other one is on the Strand). Sometimes the Proud's exhibition schedule can maybe look a little 'fluffy' against some of the capital's more heavyweight contenders. But popular culture is what the Proud galleries do best, and their quality control is pretty good too. So if you can get over the fact that they're actually called the 'Sony......
