Huntsmen and their hounds in Oxford Street, London. (Photo by Fox Photos/Getty Images) Back in days of yore, before Flickr gave ordinary Jones' ample opportunity to display their badly-framed mobile phone snaps to the world, the rhythm of London life was captured by various professional photographers, from a variety of sources, including the influential Picture Post. Such work has been diligently collected over the years by Getty, and the fruits of their Hulton Archive have......

Fears that the "credit crunch" would cramp Carnival style, would seem to have been unfounded as around 250,000 people turned out to revel in the Children's Day Parade yesterday. There was a year on year increase in arrests with 98 people nicked and 7 pit bull type dogs confiscated but police were keen to stress this was a result of "proactive policing" rather than an increase in criminal activity. Carnival spirit appeared to be on......

A series celebrating the talent of our friends over in the Londonist Flickr pool who make our site look pretty with their fabulous photographs. Here, they introduce themselves and share their favourite London shots. Ironmonger Lane I come from several generations of Londoners and have never left the city for more than three weeks at a time. It was the idea of taking better holiday pictures that drove me to get an SLR camera. Like......

If you're going to launch your overpriced mag in London, best make it stand out from the usual glut of freesheets, tossed-off glossy mags and flyers that clog shelf space in any hipster hangout worth its Cheap Monday jeans. At the UK launch of Brooklyn photography magazine Capricious last night, hosted at Hoxton Square's KK Outlet we lost count of how often the shop assistant had to tell people that the edition they were......

Londonist can't keep up with all these weather changes. First it's too hot and then it's too cold and then it's too wet and sigh....we give up. No matter the weather, we always find space in our tummies for gelato. Londonist is a regular at Oddono's in South Kensington; they also have a concession in Selfridges and a few restaurants and cafes that stock them. First timer? They'll recommend their hazelnut, rich and creamy.......

According to the British Journal of Photography, the Barbican Art Gallery will be the first exhibition space in the world to host a recently-discovered collection of photographs by war photographer Robert Capa. The "Mexico Suitcase", a collection of 3,500 negatives shot by Capa and Magnum co-founder 'Chim' Seymour, plus Capa's girlfriend Gerda Taro, was bought from the descendant of a Mexican general by the International Centre for Photography at the beginning of the year.......

Something to brighten an overcast Tuesday: pictures from Sunday's Carnaval del Pueblo which salsa, soca and samba-ed down the Walworth Road and filled Burgess Park with Latin American live music, dance and a fiesta of colour, bringing Salvador to the streets of Southwark. Many thanks to Orhan & Tanya N for the photographs, via the Londonist Flickrpool.......
