Five minutes walk from Chalk Farm Tube station, or Kentish Town Overground if you dare, stands the 176 Gallery - a former Methodist church turned exhibition centre. The building is worth a trip in its own right, but make sure you get along in the next 24 hours to catch a psychogeographic video installation from Gerry Fox. Living London has been showing since late January, but reaches the end of its run on Sunday.......

Every month, the folks at Fancyapint? get together to vote for their top ten favourite pubs. These are recently visited pubs that for one reason or another (the ambience, the booze, the company) stuck in their collective memory. Kindly, these booze-savvy Fancyapinters have decided to share their latest picks with Londonist and all our readers. Cheers! Here’s the current list from Fancyapint? in no particular order of merit. They assure us that all ten......

March already? How did that happen? The perils of having our head buried in a book so much of the time, no doubt. If we must emerge this week from our cosy little book-enclosed chrysalis, it’ll likely be to head to the following events. Monday: The RSL-sponsored TS Eliot Memorial meeting brings together award-winning poets Alice Oswald and Kathleen Jamie for an evening of readings from their work. Both have been lauded for the......

A 24 bus crashed into a bridge at 9am this morning on Prince of Wales Road NW5, injuring 6 people and wiping out its own roof. The bus was on diversion following the Camden Canal Market fire at the weekend. Other buses had been successfully centering themselves and passing unharmed beneath the arched bridge since the fire cut off access to Camden High Street. We wait to hear what on earth the driver was......

We're all about rolling today. From 2 wheels to 4: London ladies listen up! Do you look good in fishnets? Have you a barely repressed aggressive streak? Want to get fit? If so, we might have found your ideal sporting hobby. Rockin Rollers want to rock with you! The sport is roller derby made famous by the 70s film Rollerball. 2 all-women teams skate furiously around an oval track and try and knock each other......

Here’s what we’ve learned while you lot have been out, up and away with the fireworks: The Polish Prime Minister is to make a personal visit to Ealing to thank his, er, voters… The police have sneaked out a discreet Sunday press release about the obscene amounts of money they have spent on PR for PCSOs. Forget gang-on-gang violence... howzabout octogenarian on octogenarian murder? The University of Surrey is to build a hip and......

The Rushes are Gerard, Dan, Joe and James and they've just been signed by Island Records. They're in the process of making their 1st album between studios in Ladbroke Grove and Clapham and make emotional piano lead pop that will probably be everywhere by this time next year. We particularly like "What U Waitin For" -have a listen. So here's your chance to catch them early, The Rushes are supporting Turin Brakes on Thursday......

You know the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness is truly here when shiny brown conkers start showing up everywhere. This Sunday they'll be swinging from strings and used as potentially lethal (well, knuckle bruising) weapons by all and sundry: it's Hampstead Heath's Conker Championship! This is doubly exciting. Firstly, Conkers is a stupidly excellent game that makes us feel all nostalgic and olde Englishe. Secondly, Hampstead Heath just isn't mentioned often enough on......

The fourth in our series of interviews with potential candidates for next year's Mayoral election. Previously: Victoria Borwick (Tory), Andrew Boff (Tory) and Warwick Lightfoot (Tory). Sian Berry is the Green's candidate for next year's elections. Unlike the Tory rivals we've previously interviewed, she is a strong supporter of the congestion charge. She's the only person we've ever known to use the words 'The North London Line is good'. And she's also got a......

16. Strange Invaders Whilst residing at his terraced house in Kentish Town, during the 1980s, Christopher Fowler began to notice glimpses of unusual whitish creatures in his back garden. After finally finding the time to fully investigate, and to dismiss such possible hallucinations on his own behalf, Mr Fowler was astounded to discover several albino lobster-like critters, which plagued his yard for several months. A friend of Mr Fowler’s, whilst visiting one evening, almost......

Whether they are singing the praises of greasy spoon cafés in Kentish Town or lazy afternoon walks down Parkway, London certainly belongs to Saint Etienne. Formalising their status as our indie poet laureates, they've spent the year as Artists in Residence at Southbank Centre. Tonight they unveil the fruits of their creative labour, a 75 minute film entitled "This Is Tomorrow". Directed by Paul Kelly and produced by Andrew Hinton, the film presents a......

Chan Marshall, the enchanting enigma otherwise known as Cat Power, bravely strides onto the stage of the Kentish Town Forum, to play her London comeback gig, following a well publicized breakdown last year. It is immediately obvious that the life-saving short spell spent on a Miami psychiatric ward has transformed the woman once famous for a crippling shyness and an ongoing battle with her demons. Firstly, she's hardly recognizable. Her hair is pulled back......

A large number of people wearing black descended on Kentish Town last night in order to see Mastodon, heavyweights of the Atlanta prog-math-tech-doom-art-metal scene, unleash their waves of intricate chords and furiously-paced drumbeats at the Forum, and Londonist was pleased to join them. After wandering in to the main floor unchallenged (despite being in possession of balcony tickets) but then deciding we'd rather have a civilised drink unjostled by the hordes of fans with......

First Capital Connect, wordy if not worthy inheritors of the Thameslink franchise, vowed to increase capacity and performance when they took on the route in 2005. And, God bless them, they've tackled the problem with refreshing imagination. Running the trains on a 26-hour clock is a stroke of genius. Unable to increase their rolling stock, they've tweaked the Earth's rotational period to maximise the number of passengers per day. Now, install some fricking Oyster......

Kentish Town Cyclist, Nik Shah, is taking the time to try and make the morning commute a little more interesting by using it as a poke in the government's eye. PledgeBank is the implement of choice in an attempt to organise a Valentine's Day protest against The Serious Organised Crime and Police Acton: "I will commute past Westminster on a bike wearing a vest that says "SOCPA sucks" but only if 10 other local......

Friday: Club NME: You know we don't really like Club NME. Maybe we're being harsh, maybe we've just not been in the right mood or maybe we're just getting old, but every time we've been it has seemed to be full of really really drunk teenagers who are all just a little bit too messy. The thing is though, the DJs do play some corking tunes, and the clout of the NME means they......

The 15-year-old girl who went missing last Wednesday after going to meet a man she met on an internet chatroom has been found safe and well in a park in Hammersmith. The cost of building the London 2012 Olympic Stadium might have just gone up from £250 million to £280 million. London Underground has published its third Annual PPP Report and it shows "unacceptable failure" by Metronet and Tube Lines to meet the challenges......

The BBC, police and local authorities are considering blanking out big screens across the country after violent scenes at the Canary Wharf screening of England's laboured 1-0 victory (we did say they struggled in the heat) over Paraguay on Saturday. Police were called at 3:30 pm as around 200 of the 6,000 fans gathered in Canada Square threw missiles and fought, an affray some witnesses said began with youths throwing beer over each other.......

You'll find this one all over Camden, especially around the canal area, and up towards Kentish Town. And there's a particularly prominent example on some shutters next to Farringdon Station. At about 4pm on Thursday a Hercules must have flown over Camden and deposited its cargo of 70s and 80s thrift store, retro chic on to the assembled throng below. It was followed by the resounding rumble of the legacies of the Clash; the Specials and Joy Division, at first drifting and then powering from the entrance to G-Lounge. Ladies and gentlemen, the 2006 Camden Crawl is upon us, reeling from last year's success:......
