Snaps from Stratford on Friday as one of the seven bridges was lifted into place on the Olympic Site. You can also check out this short and vaguely interesting video fly-through from the ODA showing overall progress on the Olympic site. The cupcake is taking shape! All images by Andy Wilkes......

Being Mayor of London has its perks. If your family have a crappy time getting home from holiday, caught up in the purgatory of Gatwick baggage reclaim and – despite your eminent public standing and instantly recognisable blond moptop – being helpless to do anything about it then at least you have the comfort of spilling your literary aspirational guts about it in the Telegraph and tacking on a bit of transport policy too,......

As you may well have found out on your morning commute, Liverpool Street Station is closed today following a fall of scaffolding from a new East London Line bridge onto tracks last night. It was originally reported that the bridge itself has collapsed. Thankfully, this was not so. Network Rail is hoping to have the line open again by 14.00 today but we say don't hold your breath. Was your journey to work affected this......

According to Camden New Journal (print edition), two of the Borough's more distinctive structures are not long for this world. The Bloomsbury Service Station (right), on Store Street, is reckoned to be London's oldest garage, pedaling petrol since 1926. Its cornflower blue trimmings are a welcome sight in the otherwise monotone streets of Bloomsbury. But its days are numbered thanks to a drop in business attributed to the congestion charge. The lease runs out......

If the title of this post doesn't explain what's going on right now on Shoreditch High street, then maybe the press release from TFL will: An extraordinary engineering feat is due to take place in the heart of the city this weekend, to help complete a crucial section of Transport for London’s (TfL) East London line project. Britain’s biggest mobile crane is being brought in to pick up and then gently lower into place......

At first glance, this looks like a rather pleasant alternative to the Millennium Bridge - a verdant, undulating span like nothing else in London. But look at what's written along the side and you may feel your gorge begin to rise. The Diana Memorial Bridge is one of dozens of abandoned London schemes in a long-running thread on skyscrapercity forums. These include an X-rated erotic gherkin, a bulbous colander for Trafalgar Square and, our......

A 24 bus crashed into a bridge at 9am this morning on Prince of Wales Road NW5, injuring 6 people and wiping out its own roof. The bus was on diversion following the Camden Canal Market fire at the weekend. Other buses had been successfully centering themselves and passing unharmed beneath the arched bridge since the fire cut off access to Camden High Street. We wait to hear what on earth the driver was......

Here's what we've learned this weekend while the rest of you have been up t'pub: A truly ghoulish painting of Blair is unveiled. Londonist will have nightmares. Things are almost back to normal at Heathrow. Whatever that is. Londonist doesn’t really understand why people have cars. There’s been a horrific accident on the A2. Very disturbing stuff about our boys in blue. If you like watching the birdies, here’s your big chance. Bridge moves......
