This pub was voted one of the best in Crystal Palace by Londonist readers.
An old favourite among the beer aficionados of CAMRA, Grape and Grain has recently smartened itself up to offer something more rounded. Gone is the smelly carpet and farty sofas. Some will rejoice, but the new grey-interior looks much more generic. What is that shade of grey-green? It's now so ubiquitous, it should officially be dubbed 'gastropub green'.
Nevermind, for the range of ales is unimpeachable. Eleven draught taps offer a daunting range of local and national options. Some are very local, such as the Southpaw from Gipsy Hill brewery, a 10-minute walk away.
There's plenty of space, albeit dull space, to luxuriate in your beer. If it's a warm day, the front garden is also very spacious. The pub is also well known for its live music (four nights a week), swing dance classes and regular quiz. The recent acquisition of the pub by Wetherspoon is, at the time of writing, still undetectable in the pub's appearance and branding.
Quiz night is Thursday.
