New Overground Trains... Now With Wifi

Join us to chat about all things related to London transport on our new Facebook group, Londonist Roundel Ramblings — everyone welcome.

Take a look at the future of London Overground. These flashy Class 710 trains will be unleashed onto the network from November 2018.

The brand new rolling stock comes with bells and whistles. Passengers can enjoy free wifi and — if they're lucky enough to get a seat — USB recharging points. The carriages also boast 'intelligent lighting and temperature control' and improved real-time travel information.

The trains will also look a bit different — sleeker, blacker, more curvaceous. Inside, a new moquette will line the seats.

The trains, built by Bombardier in Derby, will make their first appearance on the newly electrified Gospel Oak to Barking (Goblin) branch 'from November'. That's half a year later than initially promised — put down to delays in testing and problems with the software. Once finally up and running, though, the new trains will double capacity on the Goblin line.

Eventually, some 54 Class 710 trains will operate across the network.
