The next stage of TfL's accessibility plan has been revealed, with six further tube stations due to be made step-free by 2020.
Amersham, Buckhurst Hill, Cockfosters, Mill Hill East, Osterley and South Woodford are the stations that have been revealed, with work beginning at Buckhurst Hill later this year. Work is already underway to make Bromley-by-Bow step-free, as well as interchanges at Bank and Finsbury Park. Work is due to start soon at Harrow-on-the-Hill and Newbury Park.
The work is taking place as part of Sadiq Khan’s £200m boost to make tube travel more accessible over the next five years, by which time more than 100 tube stations will be step-free (over 40% of the network, compared to the current 26%). This still leaves more than half the network inaccessible to wheelchair users, and those who have difficulty using stairs, such as older people and parents with pushchairs.
Every station on Crossrail, due to open in 2019, will be step-free.
