King's Cross station is closing completely for two weekends, to allow East Coast upgrade work to take place.
No trains will run in or out of the National Rail station this weekend, Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 January, with people advised to avoid travelling if possible. The closure affects LNER, Grand Central, Great Northern & Thameslink, and Hull Trains services, so if you must travel, check the details of any alternative options with each individual company.
The station is also completely closed on Saturday 29 February and Sunday 1 March, with the same train companies affected — which may scupper the plans of anyone wanting to make the most of the extra day courtesy of the leap year with a weekend away
King's Cross St Pancras tube station remains open, and is unaffected by these works.
You'll also want to plan ahead if you're using the station later in 2020 too. King's Cross will close completely again on 20 and 21 June, and there's a reduced long-distance service on 5-13 September, with prolonged disruption from December 2020-March 2021.
Why all the closures? It's too allow the King's Uncrossed part of the East Coast upgrade works to take place. A mile and a half of tracks and signalling equipment just outside the station is being replaced, and two disused lines on the way into King's Cross are being reopened, to increase capacity.
