Things to do

NEON ART: If you're on Oxford Street for Christmas shopping this week, pop into Selfridges and head up to the top floor to see a temporary exhibition by God's Own Junkyard. The Walthamstow-based neon emporium has installed some of its glowing signs used in films, TV shows and magazine shoots. Selfridges (Oxford Street), free entry, just turn up, until 24 December

SNOOPY: Good grief, Charlie Brown! Not been to see this Peanuts exhibition yet? If you grew up reading the comic strips, it's full of all the quirky humour you'd expect — and you might end up seeing your childhood favourites in a different light. Artwork, comic strips and merchandise relating to Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the Peanuts gang are on display. Somerset House, £14, book ahead, until 3 March

HORSE SHOW: If you love all things equine, you'll be pleased to hear that the Olympia Horse Show is back. Watch showjumping, dressage and international displays, and browse stalls selling all things horse-related. Olympia London, £17-£22, book ahead, 17-23 December

CHRISTMAS RUN: Take part in a 10k social run along the banks of the Thames, seeing plenty of the city's Christmas lights as you go. Christmas-themed attire is encouraged, and it finishes at a pub so you can refresh with a pint or two. Bank, free, book ahead, 6.30pm-8pm

The Olympia Horse Show starts today

COMEDY: Ben Target, Dan Cook, Stevie Martin and Adam Riches join forces for this comedy night, performing material that few other comedians would even think about saying out loud. The Bill Murray (Islington), £5 to book a seat/just turn up for free, 6.45pm

CANDLELIT CAROLS: Celebrity readings, choir performances, mulled wine and mince pies are all part of the this carols by candlelight concert, which raises money for Breast Cancer Care. St Paul's Church (Knightsbridge), £15-£32, book ahead, 7pm

MAUREEN LIPMAN: Actress and comedian Maureen Lipman brings her one-woman show to London, telling her life story through monologues, songs, sketches and jokes. Southbank Centre, £29.50, book ahead, 7.30pm (until 6 January)

CAROL CONCERT: BT's Christmas carol concert brings the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to the Royal Albert Hall for carols and traditional Christmas singalongs. Clare Balding, Jake Humphrey, the National Youth Chamber Choir, Tommy Blaize, and the London Community Gospel Choir all make appearances. Royal Albert Hall, from £60, book ahead, 7.30pm

GOSPEL CAROLS: Yep, more carol concerts — at this one a gospel choir serenades the audience with gospel songs and traditional carols. The venue is candlelit, and mulled wine and minced pies are served on arrival. St Paul's (Covent Garden), £18, book ahead, 7.30pm

Good cause of the day

It's a Christmas comedy show, but don't go along expecting jingle bells and jolly holly — Nick Helm's Christmas F*ck-Fest is something of an annual tradition, which in his own words, marks "the passing of another sh*tty year". Money raised goes to homelessness charity Shelter.
