Feeling Adventurous? Check Out These Secret London Experiences

This is a sponsored article on behalf of Secret Adventures.

Bet you've never done *this* before.

Now, we've barely recovered from our post-Christmas slump, but we thought we'd come right out and say it: 2018, we're ready for you. A brand new year calls for some brand new adventures, right? Forget the tourist traps — the folks over at Secret Adventures have put together a pretty stellar looking line-up of events to get you pumped, and they're tailor made for intrepid urban explorers like you.

Just when you thought you've seen it all, these city-based adventures will have you exploring London from a whole new perspective...

Enjoy a candlelit acoustic concert in a derelict chapel

Join three talented musicians as they take to the stage for a special candlelit concert at the Asylum Chapel. This hauntingly beautiful building was almost completely gutted by an incendiary device during the war, leaving behind its stained glass windows and a collection of carved stone funerary monuments — making for a very intimate venue indeed.

And if that doesn't sound mysterious enough for you, the three musician's names will not be revealed until the evening of the event. This is music as it's supposed to be: live, intimate and in very special surroundings. Hot mulled wine, drinks and delicious homemade food will be available too. Now you don't get that at your typical London music venue, do you?

The gig takes place on the 9 January 2018, from 6.30pm-9pm. Click here to book tickets.

Kayak past iconic London landmarks

We've been on a few boats down the Thames in our time, but it's safe to say that we've never seen the sights via kayak. This one-way trip (trust us, you won't have the energy to paddle back again) from Greenwich to Battersea will have you sailing past iconic London landmarks like Canary Wharf, Tower Bridge, HMS Belfast, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament, to name but a few, and it's infinitely more fun than catching the river bus.

The trip lasts a good three hours, so you'll need to wrap up warm. Everything else you'll need is included though, from buoyancy aids and paddles to professional instructors to guide the way. You'll need good stamina for this one, but the experience is suitable for all ability levels, so don't worry if you've never set foot in a kayak before.

There are plenty of dates available, and you can book your tickets here. If you're feeling brave enough, why not try it in the dark?

Go below ground for a subterranean film-screening

If the sound of kayaking down the Thames sounds a little too tiring (don't worry, we feel you), then this one's for you: head below ground for a very special subterranean film screening. Dating back to 1843, this 65ft deep shaft aided assembly of the Rotherhithe tunnel, and Isambard Kingdom Brunel nearly drowned here during its construction. It has been sealed off to the public for over 150 years — and is now open as a cavernous events space, and a cinema like you've never seen before.

So, what's on? Only three of the best adventure films ever made: The Swimming Granny, North of the Sun and And Then We Swam. Between them, they've won over 22 film awards, and are a fitting accompaniment to your own underground adventure. Before you head down for the screening, you'll have access to the beautiful Brunel roof garden too, complete with campfire, marshmallows, candles and lanterns.

There are 15 dates to choose from, and you can book your tickets here.

If none of that piques your interest, or you've simply got a craving for more, you can check out the full range of events on the Secret Adventures website. Here's to an adventurous 2018!
