Make The Most Of This Secret Cocktail Garden Before Winter Hits

This is a sponsored article on behalf of the Midnight Apothecary.

Great friends. Great food. Even greater cocktails. That's what summer's all about, and you'd better make the most of it — knowing our luck, it won't be long before those chilly autumn nights set in.

So where do we recommend? Now you've exhausted the overcrowded city-centre bars, you're probably looking for somewhere a little different to get together with your mates, and we've found just the spot...

Welcome to the Midnight Apothecary.

This secret cocktail garden, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the city, is the perfect place for a get-together this summer. Its toasty campfire and lovingly crafted cocktails have been delighting guests since 2012, and all the ingredients are local too — either grown in the garden itself, or foraged nearby. New plants? That means new cocktails!

Of course, you'll be wanting to pair those botanical cocktails with some street food. Farm Street Kitchen, all the way from Sissinghurst in Kent, is serving up its delicious seasonal and locally sourced hot morsels at the event (and vegans are very well catered for).

Nibbles in one hand, beverage in the other, all that's left to do is enjoy the campfire and company. Toast (complimentary) marshmallows, cuddle up, and watch the sun set as you're surrounded by friends, lovers and all that wildlife. Bliss.

Also included in your ticket is a guided descent into the Brunel Tunnel Grand Entrance Hall, upon which the garden sits. At more than 190 years old, it's the oldest railway tunnel shaft in the world — now capped off and open to explore. You can wander around the Brunel Museum after hours too, and discover the story behind one of the world's great engineering dynasties.

Not bad for an after-work drinks venue, eh?

Watch out for news of Midnight Apothecary Down The Shaft, too. The special cabaret season, kicking off this autumn, sees regular performances take place in the Brunel Tunnel Grand Entrance Hall, with rum hot toddies to warm you up.

You can find The Midnight Apothecary down Railway Avenue, SE16 4LF. The garden is open every Friday and Saturday night, with two sittings available: 5pm-7.30pm, or 7.30pm-10pm. Cocktails are buy-one-get-one-half-price between 5pm and 7pm on Fridays. Click here to book your tickets.
