Rare Chance To Climb The Balfron Tower, A Brutalist Masterpiece

One of the most famous towers in east London is inviting people over for Open House weekend.

The Balfron Tower in Poplar was completed in 1967. Its distinctive style is the work of Erno Goldfinger, perhaps more famous for west London's Trellick Tower, and for inspiring the name of a Bond villain.

The 27-storey, grade II*-listed landmark is currently undergoing renovation, due for completion in 2020. Tours will take place on 21 September. You'll get some impressive views of east London, and access to two apartments.

The tours are part of Open House London, an annual event in which hundreds of London's usually-off-limits buildings are open to explore.

Booking opens on 20 August, so set a reminder now if you're interested because tickets will get snapped up quickly. The rest of the programme will be revealed on the same day, but if you do a sneaky search on Eventbrite, you can already find some of the venues that need pre-booking.
