Stage Review: Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch In Masurca Fogo

A remarkable 15 works by Pina Bausch have been performed in London since the summer of 2012, but if you're one of the few remaining dance-lovers to have missed out so far, here is a great introduction to the late German choreographer.

One of Bausch's later travelogue shows, Masurca Fogo is inspired by the sights, sounds and sensations of Portugal and Brazil; here, that translates here into watery vignettes, intricate solos, intimate partner dancing and a cameo for a live walrus.

A Bauschian undertow of melancholy aside, Masurca Fogo is an uplifting and sensuous delight from the exuberant first solo to the voluptuous ensemble finale.
