The Depot

The Depot

The best thing about being a little off the beaten track, is the amount of space you get to play with. No need for micro-pubs if you're not on a buzzing main road. As its name suggests The Depot has space in abundance.

That's not to say that the pub is in the middle of a desolate wasteland, it's just a short walk from Caledonian Road station in one direction and Holloway Road in the other. That's how you'll get here, and once you'll arrive you could spend hours. The amount of space extends to the bar, which has a surplus of taps and even more bottles to peruse.

There's a wide selection of food, and while we weren't blown away by anything we ate — the grilled halloumi sandwich and the fish and chips — it still did the trick.

For thrill-seekers, the pub is home to a set of escape rooms. We were confronted by a woman dressed as a wind-up doll asking us if we were "here to play" — alas we were not. There's a quote on the walls claiming that this is the Crystal Maze on crystal meth. Find out more here.

If that's not quite how you like to spend an evening, then we recommend heading to The Pleasance Theatre for a bit of fringe upstairs. The Depot is the perfect spot for a pre-drama pint — which is how we stumbled upon this place — but now we're tempted to go back just for the pub.
