A kids’ production ought to be full of noise and energy, and Peppa Pig's Adventure certainly is. Peppa and friends, in articulated puppet form, gleefully sing and shout as they trundle about the stage. Although not all of the voices sound entirely canonical, Stephanie Houtman absolutely nails Peppa’s precocious squeals and giggles. Bronte Tadman, as Peppa’s human friend Daisy, has the superhuman levels of pep required to engage an auditorium full of pre-schoolers.

There’s little here for parents, though. Fans of the TV show will find little of the trademark wry humour, and the story is more a series of set pieces than a coherent narrative. There’s genuine magic to the campfire scene with its beautifully choreographed owls and fireflies, but the show concludes with a crashingly incongruous cameo from Santa. Our three-year-old absolutely loved the whole experience; the rest of the family might not feel so enthusiastic.
