There's already a statue of Amy Winehouse in Camden Market

A Hollywood-style Walk of Fame is due to be unveiled in London next year, recognising stars from the world of music.

The Music Walk of Fame will stretch the hefty length between Chalk Farm and Mornington Crescent as it's created over the coming years, consisting of more than 400 commemorative stones placed in the pavements of Camden Town.

Music fans will be able to visit the stones dedicated to their favourite singers and bands. So far, so good — although we're not convinced that Camden Town really needs the extra tourist foot traffic. That said, Camden's musical history positions it as the logical place in London for such a venture.

Call us cynical, but we can't see many artists agreeing with the extremely bold claim that a place on the Music Walk of Fame is the "highest accolade in music". BRIT Award? Nah. Grammy? Who cares — as long as people are treading all over your name on the streets of NW3.

It'll be accompanied by the Music Walk of Fame app (not yet available), which will apparently turn Camden's streets into the world's first 'Augmeum' — that's an 'augmented reality museum' for those who speak English. Basically, it'll be an audio recording giving a bit of background information about Camden's musical history (which is, undeniably, fascinating), all set to a nice soundtrack, bringing the Music Walk of Fame to people all over the world who can't get to Camden to experience it in person.

Who gets a stone on London's Music Walk of Fame?

A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Designs for London's Music Walk of Fame have yet to be revealed.

A founding stone is due to be laid in February 2019, and a series of ceremonies will launch the inaugural stones in March. The Clash, Prince and local legend Amy Winehouse are among the first to be recognised.

Following this, a panel of musicians, press and music industry figures will be assembled to vote on future additions.
