London's Museums Stay Open Late This Week For Museums At Night
Keats House hosts a Regency-themed late

Museums at Night is back this week, with late-night events taking place in London's museums and galleries.

It's a nationwide event, designed to let the public see cultural destinations in a different light. London venues hosting special happenings include Keats House, the National Archives and the Fashion & Textile Museum.

Keats House in Hampstead stays open late on Thursday for a Georgian-themed evening, while Benjamin Franklin House offers candlelit tours of the Founding Father's former abode. Test your general knowledge at a quiz night at the Museum of the Order of St John, located inside the 16th century St John's Gate in Clerkenwell.

Down in Bermondsey, King's Road and Carnaby Street are in the spotlight at Fashion & Textile Museum's night dedicated to the swinging London of the 1960s, and the National Archives continues its Cold War series with a 1980s themed evening — shoulders and sweatbands encouraged as you play retro video games, sip themed cocktails, and tour the new Cold War exhibition.

And browsing the programme, we ourselves have learned something about London — namely, the existence of the Anaesthesia Heritage Centre, a little-known medical museum and archive in Portland Street, which hosts an after-hours event about murder and scandal.

Museums at Night 2019 takes place 15-18 May (although some events take place after these dates). See London events here.
