The BT Tower displayed an embarrassing error message on Saturday.
Those gazing up at the once-futuristic Fitzrovia tower were invited to: "Choose operating system to start or press TAB to select a tool: (Use arrow keys to highlight your choice and then press ENTER)."

The tower's LED screen is normally used for crowd-pleasing messages such as 'Good morning London' or 'Merry Christmas'. The default startup error from Windows 7 is a bit of a departure from that vibe.
Of course, Twitter was all over it. The high-profile software meltdown was quickly conflated with Broken Brexit Britain. And we note that Oddie's Law was observed — that any conversation about the BT Tower leads to this photo of a cat within five replies.
It's now sorted. Engineers must have given the screen a good kick, or else turned it off and on again. According to BT: 'A technical issue caused the infoband on the BT Tower to display an error message which has now been fixed.'
