Get ready to travel back in time with Jumeirah Carlton Tower hotel, at its new Summer of '69 afternoon tea.
The suave sarnies are nothing to do with Bryan Adams, but focus on some of the best-known events of the that year, marking half a century since they took place.
A quartet of Beatles stroll across a hazelnut, milk chocolate and elderflower delice, designed to look like the Abbey Road crossing, commemorating the release of the band's album of the same name.
Battenberg shifts away from its usual yellow and pink hues to take on a rainbow palette for the Woodstock cake, complete with guitar. And the moon landing is represented by an Amalfi lemon First Man on the Moon cake with whipped lemon ganache, topped with a silver space rocket.
The savoury section of the menu includes a prawn and cress bridge roll with Marie Rose sauce; a mini smoked Applewood cheese scone with tomato, basil and goats cheese, and a Scottish beef sandwich with watercress and creamed horseradish. The hotel's resident harpist (you're in Knightsbridge now, dahling) provides a soundtrack of live music, although no sixties tracks have been mentioned — perhaps Come Together doesn't translate to the harp too smoothly.
Summer of '69 afternoon tea is served at Chinoiserie at Jumeirah Carlton Tower, Cadogan Place, Knightsbridge. It's available 3pm-6pm daily, 1 June-31 August 2019 and costs £39 per person/£49 including a glass of Laurent-Perrier Brut Champagne/£59 including a glass of Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé.
