Sink Your Teeth Into A Larder Great Greek Food The Greek Larder 4

Stepping into The Greek Larder near King’s Cross, the warmth and general hubbub is invigorating and we’re led cheerily to our table. Our waiter talks us through the wine list — the Greek wines are plentiful — and offers dish suggestions from the menu with incredible knowledge down to the smallest ingredient. Also helpful are his translations for the more niche recipe choices.

We order a meze, a side and a souvlaki each and each plate is more filling than we thought it would be. The Bakaliaro Skordalia is a  beautifully flaky battered home cured salt cod served with a thick nutty potato puree. The Tigania is a delicious mix of lamb sausage, melt in the mouth red and yellow peppers and crunchy sourdough bruscetta. The souvlakis are tasty, but not quite hot enough. We don't finish them, opting to leave room for dessert instead.

On our waiter’s recommendation, we dip our spoons into a rich chocolate and mahlepi mousse, the sweetness juxtaposed with the sourness of cherries on top, and a baked cheesecake made with authentic Greek cheese that tickles our tastebuds in ways we weren’t expecting. This is a great restaurant for anyone looking for something near a stroll along the canal, or a quick getaway from King’s Cross Station at the end of the evening.
