Get Ready For The Festive Season With City Lit's Food And Drink Courses

This is a sponsored article on behalf of City Lit.

The festive season looms into sight, bringing the perfect excuse to stuff ourselves stupid for four weeks straight. But if you want to do that with a bit more panache than usual this year, check out one of the festive food and drink courses on offer at City Lit...

Learn how to make sparkling conversation this Christmas...

On 17 November join the Fantastic Fizz course to take an educational journey through the bubbly stuff. Sample eight wines, from prosecco and cava to cremant and champagne, exploring their unique characteristics and learning about the production methods that contribute to those differences. Fizz novices and sparkling savants can both join in this evening class.

Your chocolate questions answered

We feel quite expert at chocolate eating already, but that doesn't make this chocolate tasting class any less alluring. Your chocolate habit suddenly sounds a lot more sophisticated when you can wax lyrical about the history of chocolate worship in ancient civilisations. The course promises to answer cacao-questions like: is white chocolate really chocolate? A resounding 'No' from us at Londonist Towers, but we're hoping the experts at City Lit can give us some science to support that.

There's a course running on 19 November, or reserve a place for you and a loved one on their 21 January course and make a chocolatey Christmas gift of it.

Find out about the importance of port

Often relegated to the dusty recesses of a kitchen cupboard and just dusted off in time for Christmas, City Lit are here to give you a newfound appreciation for Portugal's two fortified wines. Their Port and Madeira for Christmas class on 8 December takes you through four samples of both, from the rich and fruity to the smooth and elegant. Maybe this is the year your festive port becomes not just a tradition but a pleasure...

Get adventurous with your Christmas wines

Our wine drinking usually takes a noticeable step up in quantity during the Christmas season — unfortunately we can't say the same about its quality. Step in City Lit, with a Festive Wine course on 15 December to give a more adventurous edge to your Christmas wine buying. Beginners are welcome at this evening class aimed at making our approach to choosing Christmas dinner wines a bit less scattergun and a lot more interesting.

Experiment with beer and festive food pairings

The City Lit Christmas beer tasting course claims the richness of beer makes it a great alternative to hot chocolate when it comes to keeping out the cold. Sceptical? Be persuaded at their class on 20 December, where you'll sample five wintry beers and learn which Christmas foods to pair them with.

And of course it doesn't all have to be about boozing... start the new year in more virtuous style with a tea tasting course on 20 January or an introduction to nutrition on 10 December. And you can check out the range of City Lit food and drink courses here for more inspiration.
