Food Review: Korean Fried Chicken In King's Cross Wing Wing 3

Wing Wing is a splash of colour in the no-man's-land near Euston station. Bright graphics on the walls jostle with signs telling you to 'pick up hot birds here' and K-Pop plays on flatscreens across the restaurant.

Their homage to the Korean chimaek tradition — coming from a mash-up of 'chicken' and the Korean word for beer — includes the first beer dispenser of its sort in the UK, filling the pint glass in seconds... from the bottom up. Magnets are involved. It's hypnotic.

This place isn't just about gimmickry though — they take their process seriously. Every piece of fried chicken is free-range, and hand-brushed with sauce rather than just dunked in a vat of it, to avoid clagging and stickiness. Controversially, we reckon the katsu bao — with its crunch of fried chicken, softness of the bao and the sticky, pickly sauce — beats the slightly anodyne box of wings and drumsticks hands-down.

The dessert bao, stuffed with combinations including salted peanut and caramel, are just as good as the katsu-filled versions. We could take or leave the wings themselves, but a takeaway box of bao for the train could totally become a pre-Euston routine.
