Flock: A Coffee Fuelled Den That Has Properly Cracked Brunch Flock 3

If you thought the area surrounding the Tower of London was nothing more than just a throng of tourists interspersed with a few generic chain eateries, think again. New cafe/restaurant/bar and all day social spot Flock is here to add a bit of character to the scene. Dodge the selfie sticks and step into a buzzing den of hanging plants and subtle lighting, with insanely good coffee and fresh artisanal ingredients on the menu.

The brunch game at Flock is strong, with options like the Flock Vegetarian Breakfast — baked eggs with tomatoes, feta and red peppers with sourdough — breaking free from the typical brunch mould. We gave this veggie heaven a go, and the sweetness from the tomatoes against the creaminess of the cheese and the softness of the eggs all worked perfectly. On the other side of the table, the smashed avocado on toast was generous with the smash, and the free range eggs poached to perfection. An abundance of homemade cakes and pastries, free high-speed wifi, and a pretty decent sound system means you really could stay here for hours.

We checked this out for brunch, but the burgers on the lunch and dinner menu sound worth a try too. We hear that the brioche-bunned 8oz patties are designed by Des McDonald, the former Ivy chef who now runs Selfridge’s Forest on the Roof restaurant. Afternoons and evenings feature craft beers and wine — why not get out a board game for an after-dark spot where you can actually hear yourself think? We may just have to head back to sample their special espresso martini.

Flock, 105a Minories, London, EC3N 1LA.
