This Bar In A Herb Garden Is Open For The Summer

One of London's most romantic bars is open again for the summer. The Midnight Apothecary at the Brunel Museum is a welcome change from many overpriced, overcrowded drinking dens — and specialises in floral cocktails and summery (and herby) vibes.

Think delicious (and potent) flower-inspired cocktails (hats off to whoever named the Rhubarbra Streisand) and marshmallows toasted on a campfire.

The plants that go into the cocktails are grown in the garden where the bar is situated — on the roof of Brunel's Grand Entrance Hall. The circular plot is overflowing with greenery, with wooden benches dotted around the edges, and that roaring campfire in the middle. Once you've ordered your drink at the fairy light bedecked bar, take a seat and the staff will bring it over when it's ready.

The garden — not normally open to the public — is lit with candles and fairy lights, making for one heck of a romantic atmosphere — all just a stone's throw from the Thames.

Our top tip? Get there early. Although ticketing prevents the bar from getting too overcrowded, those front-row campfire seats get snapped up pretty quickly.

If you like your cocktails with a side of culture, take a guided tour of Brunel's Grand Entrance Hall, included in ticket price. Descend down the steps (don't worry, your drink can come too) and hear about how Brunel dug his Thames Tunnel, beginning from this very spot.
