John Lewis Oxford Street Opens A Rooftop Fairground This Friday

The rooftop garden at John Lewis on Oxford Street is being transformed into a fairground for the winter months.

The sixth floor of the flagship department store is getting an Americana-inspired makeover, with carousel horses and bumper cars functioning as photo props, plus fairground illuminations and games galore.

The House of Lights is available for private hire.

All sounds fun, but you won't be allowed to forget you're in a department store — the curling station and claw machine are courtesy of Google, while uplighters by electronics brand Philips bathe the whole terrace in a photogenic glow.

The two brands are also responsible for the rooftop's House of Mirrors, House of Lights and House of Fortune, each available to book for private hire, all designed to look ab fab on Instagram.

Sage Appliances hosts a pop-up bar, offering festive coffee cocktails and regular coffee masterclasses. For something stronger, Background Bars serves up beer, wine, aperitifs and cocktails.

Food comes via pop-up king Jimmy Garcia, who opens The Carnival Diner, serving up a menu of Popcorn Shrimp, Loaded Corn Dogs, toffee apples, turkey drummers and other fairground-inspired American fare. Book a table in advance, or try your luck by just turning up on the day.
