Back in April, we invited you to vote for the Institution of Civil Engineers' (ICE) London People's Choice Award. From neo-Brutalist stations to a Victorian coal drops, our readers were tasked with choosing the best London infrastructure project of 2019 from a shortlist of ten.

This was your chance to have your say on London's ever-evolving landscape and celebrate the transformative power of civil engineering. And boy, did you guys deliver.

4,036, of you voted, more than doubling last year's tally, and we can now reveal that London's new favourite infrastructure project is...

...Chiswick Park Footbridge!

Submitted by engineering practice Expedition, this 120m long, three-span arched bridge connects Chiswick Business Park with the surrounding west London community.

An eye-catching combination of weathering steel and hardwood flooring, the bridge is a particularly welcome addition to the area for commuters — easing overcrowding at Gunnersbury station by providing a pedestrian link to Chiswick Park station, replacing the mixed pedestrian and traffic railway level crossings. And it's rather easy on the eye, too.

Chris Wise, Director of Expedition summed up the impact of Chiswick Park Footbridge as follows:

The wonderful thing about bridges is that they are projects for everyone, an integral part of their landscape. So while of course we had loads of engineering fun at Chiswick Park, the best thing is to see everyone nipping across our bridge from work to drop their kids at the creche, or strolling across their new shortcut to work. Winning the people’s vote means a lot as we love designing stuff to make life better. Thanks to all who voted for us.

His team's project was announced as the winner of the public vote on Thursday 16 May at a glitzy awards ceremony at ICE's London HQ, One Great George Street. And, by the looks of things, everyone from Expedition thoroughly enjoyed themselves:

But they're not the only ones with something to celebrate. As a special thank you for getting involved, ICE are giving away copies of its 200th anniversary commemorative book, Shaping the World, to three randomly-selected voters. Congratulations and happy reading to Alice Blair, Sophie Collins, and Jim Hutchison.

Do you reckon our readers made the right call? You can browse the shortlisted entries here, or read all about the ICE London Awards here. And don't forget to pay Chiswick Park Footbridge a visit if you haven't already — it's especially good looking after dark, in all its floodlit glory.
