Grand Connaught Rooms

Ornate, vaulted ceilings. Chandeliers glittering regally. Sweeping marble staircases... Grand Connaught Rooms's wedding venue serves up a lot of luxury. The decor has an air of classical grandeur, all cream, white and gold opulence; the banqueting hall itself will have you marvelling that something of this vast stateliness exists, hidden in plain sight, in the middle of Holborn.

VUK Banqueting Suite

With a capacity of up to 500 guests, it's not surprising this Chiswick venue is rapidly becoming the wedding venue of choice for couples with an epic-scale reception in mind. The leafy west London location comes with more spaciousness than your average City location: five acres of grounds surround the venue, so you won't have to choose between sunlit outdoor photo opps and space for indoor banqueting.

Hotel Café Royal

A painstakingly-restored ballroom, there's no corner of the Pompadour Suite that isn't ornate. The walls are adorned with large, gilded mirrors and classical pilasters; the ceilings are elaborately decorative and hung with chandeliers. Classic but striking, this Regent Street venue is all about no-holds-barred lavishness. Like dining inside a Fabergé egg.

Ironmongers' Hall

Ironmongers' Hall is one of those hidden, nearly-secret venues in the heart of the City that makes you want to throw a wedding right this minute, just for an excuse to hang out in the wood-panelled, candlelit beauty of its dining hall.

Stationers' Hall and Garden

Long tables, stained glass, walls hung with flags and family crests... it doesn't get much more Tudor-court-grandeur than Stationers' Hall. That grandeur doesn't come at the expense of intimacy, though. The venue's available for exclusive hire — and the wood-panelling, warm candlelight and secluded garden feel beautifully separate from the world beyond its walls.

Chandos House

The location itself, in a quiet spot between Mayfair and Marylebone, would be enough to attract couples wanting a classically elegant wedding. But Chandos House is throwing plenty of interior elegance into the mix as well: dining rooms decked out with marble fireplaces and heavy curtains, sparkling with chandeliers and sleek with dark wooden furnishings.

The Petersham Hotel

This Richmond hotel offers all the advantages of a London wedding (transport links for whisking your guests home, a smart, townhouse vibe to the rooms), combined with the luxurious calm of a country estate. The dining room belongs in a Jane Austen novel: there's more than a hint of Regency-era to its elegance.

Banking Hall

For lovers of Art Deco and grand, imposing buildings, the Main Hall at this Grade II listed venue is ticking a lot of boxes. Toweringly high marble columns edge the dining hall, hoop chandeliers give off a golden glow and every corner, staircase and entrance way has the making of perfect photoshoot location.

The Zetter Townhouse Clerkenwell

Stylish, welcoming and seductive, the dining room at the Zetter Townhouse Clerkenwell is the perfect size for an intimate celebration. Wedding or no wedding, actually: we're feverishly trying to think of an upcoming occasion (birthday? Christmas? Mum's cousin's graduation?) to justify hiring this out ourselves.

Middle Temple

Dream of tying the knot in the Great Hall of Hogwarts? This is the candlelit pocket of splendour for you. Middle Temple's dazzlingly historic, set in beautiful grounds and with more than a hint of something-magical-could-happen-at-any-minute about it.

Middle Temple, Middle Temple Lane, EC4Y 9AT.
