Which incredible species of plant is this? Er, glass.

The great Dale Chihuly's mind-blowing glass sculptures return to Kew Gardens in April — 'blooming' in flower beds, lakes and glasshouses.

The celestial, vibrant blue, Sapphire Star will welcome visitors through Victoria Gate. Chihuly's Rotolo series — the most technically challenging work he's ever created — will be on display. So too, will Seaforms, undulating shapes that conjure up visions of underwater life.

Chihuly is no stranger to London: you can see his immense chandelier hanging in the rotunda of the V&A (it's a nightmare to clean), while past exhibitions at Kew Gardens have seen his works materialise in boats floating on lakes, and inside its glass houses.

The exhibition will also have Chihuly Family Trail — available to children and their families at weekends and school holidays — while a night-time experience will see the installations glow ethereally in the gardens.
