A Double Dose Of Colour At Camden Arts Centre

Camden Arts Centre plays host to a double bill of colourful abstract exhibitions until September. Two galleries are dedicated to the paintings of Daniel Richter. His use of colour is superb — the brightest works are ablaze with vibrant colours which force you to step back, while the darker ones draw you in to examine them closer.

Everything from a terrorist attack to pornographic images serves as the basis for these works, which lurch off so far into the abstract that the original image is only just about recognisable. The central themes of power, sex and violence make for some extremely engrossing works.
Running alongside Richter's exhibition, Jennifer Tee is equally bold in her colour choices, but presents a calmer and more measured set of works. A massive tapestry is decorated with tulip petals and lights are crafted into a barbell. This is a visually interesting show where visitors are encouraged to lie down and listen to books being read aloud. Think of it as the meditative calm after Richter's intense and eye-catching show.
