Armour Up! A Roman-Themed Pop-Up Cinema Is Coming To Guildhall Yard

This is a sponsored article on behalf of City of London Corporation.

Make the most of the warmer, longer evenings this summer with a trip to Guildhall Yard's alfresco cinema, which is showing six Roman-inspired films.

There are plenty of classic films on offer. Check out the schedule below:

  • Monday 7 August: Monty Python's Life of Brian
  • Wednesday 9 August: Roman Holiday
  • Tuesday 15 August: Gladiator

Swords And Sandals: Outdoor Cinema Season is part of Londinium, a three-month series of archaeology talks, performances and comedy, all celebrating London's rich Roman heritage. Another highlight which we're looking forward to is the Gladiator Games, taking place 25-28 August.

Sticking firmly to the theme, Italian street food will be served up at the outdoor cinema, plus beer and cocktails. Bring your own picnic if you prefer (no glass) and don't forget cushions and blankets.

Whether you're looking for after-work fun, date inspiration or something to keep the whole family entertained we reckon you'll have a ball at Londinium. So don your finest Gladiator sandals, pack a picnic and settle down in front of a film as the sun sets over London's oldest entertainment venue. Check out the schedule of screenings and book now.

Guildhall Yard is situated directly above the ruins of Roman amphitheatre, London's oldest entertainment venue and a fitting setting to the Swords and Sandals series of films. Ticket-holders are invited to immerse themselves in the real deal with exclusive access to the amphitheatre, open until 9pm each evening.

Swords and Sandals: Outdoor Cinema Season at Guildhall Yard, Gresham Street, City of London, EC2V 5AE. It runs from 7-15 August 2017. Tickets cost £8 concession/ £10 adult and need to be booked in advance. Doors at 6.30pm, films start at sunset (approx. 8.45pm).

The screenings are brought to you by the City of London Corporation in partnership with Pop-Up Screens and supported by the Barbican.
