The winners and finalists of this year's International Garden Photographer of the Year competition are now on show, and there could only ever be one place to display them...deep within the idyllic setting of Kew Gardens.
There are many beautiful and artistic images here, including the odd humorous shot such as the grasshopper atop a flower seemingly scratching his head in bewilderment. The competition stretches the interpretation of 'garden', with several scenic vistas of rolling countryside and beaches, but these are evened out by a shot of the sun's reflection off a garden shed.
The UK is well represented among the photographs, and there are even four shots of London in the urban category featuring Elephant and Castle and Putney Bridge.
These competitions always make great debate fodder, but this year's winner is truly outstanding. It features a pink sweet pea flower supporting a white butterfly, which you'll at first mistake for another petal.
Next year's competition is already open, so get snapping. This exhibition is proof that you don't need to go too far afield to get a great garden picture. With Spring (hopefully) around the corner, Kew Gardens will be the perfect way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon and while you're there be sure to check out these photographs.
International Garden Photographer of the Year is on at the Nash Conservatory, Kew Gardens until 9 April. Entrance is included as part of entry to Kew Gardens — £13.90 for adults but children under 17 get in free.
