The New Hipster Trend Coming To London This Winter? Curling

As one London hipster hangout opens, so another is announced hot (or in this case, chilly) on its heels: a rooftop curling club is opening on Roof East in Stratford in November for seven weeks.

Created by the people behind Rooftop Film Club, Underground Film Club and Birdies Crazy Golf, Sliders Rooftop Curling will consist of four neon lit curling lanes.

If the idea of playing a game on ice, on a rooftop, in London, in December strikes you as a bit chilly, fear not: Curling Lane Lodge, complete with flame heaters and hot toddies, will be situated right next to the lanes. So you only have to brave the elements briefly to take your turn.

Curling: not just for the Winter Olympics

Elsewhere on the roof, themed karaoke cabins will be available to hire courtesy of Lucky Voice. Choose from Heartbreak Hotel or The Love Shack — which come complete with rhinestone props and disco balls.

This wouldn't be a hipster hangout without street food and cocktails, so Rockadollar Dogs will be serving up festive frankfurters and warming raclette cheese, while the hog roast comes courtesy of Peruvian barbecue specialist Cachina.

Drinks at the covered and heated bar will be served up by Spirited Mixers — expect craft beers, wines, and hot cocktails.

Sliders Rooftop Curling is at Roof East from 3 November-23 December. A 40-minute slot costs £12.50 per person (minimum four people). Karaoke costs £100 per hour for up to 10 people. Both need to be booked in advance.
