Michelin-starred Galvin at Windows restaurant in Mayfair is inviting customers to try a special five-course menu, and then pay whatever they think it's worth.
The menu includes Isle of Wight heritage tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and pain d'épice; Cornish mackerel, smoked brandade, Lyonnaise and leek velouté; Suffolk pork belly, boudin noir, celeriac, peas and roasting jus; aged Comté, chutney and raisin bread and Valrhona chocolate fondant, nougat parfait and orange ice cream.
There are some restrictions, as you’d expect. Firstly you’ll need to book two days in advance, and secondly, you’ll need to be a maximum of four people.
The restaurant also needs to break even to continue offering the deal, so don’t be stingy, because you’ll spoil the fun for everyone else.
General Manager Fred Siriex said of the deal, "it will be very interesting from a human perspective to see how people will react when we ask them what they want to pay for the food. Chris [Galvin] and I believe 99.9% of people value honesty and integrity."
The ‘pay what you like’ menu is available throughout August at Galvin at Windows for lunch and dinner, Monday – Friday. See website for exact timings.
