East London Overground Line To Close For A Week

Use the Overground between Highbury and New Cross, or round to Clapham Junction? Read on.

A series of closures will affect this stretch between 30 July and 7 August. It looks like this:

  • Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction on 30-31 July and 7-8 August
  • Highbury & Islington and Shadwell, 30 July-7 August
  • Surrey Quays and New Cross, 1-5 August

The closures are to prepare Whitechapel station for integration with Crossrail, with additional work by Network Rail on the Clapham link. The works have been timed for the summer to coincide with school holidays, when the line is at its quietest.

A replacement bus service will be in operation. Transport for London further advise that Highbury & Islington, Shadwell and Canada Water stations will be busier than usual.

The closure coincides with the complete suspension of the Gospel Oak to Barking line, which is undergoing a major upgrade.
