Travel Back In Time At This Vintage Steam Fair

The fair has come to town, bringing with it a stunning array of rare vintage rides and attractions that run off steam and a heightened state of nostalgia.

Carters Steam Fair, currently on a tour around London, will transport you back in time with rides such as a 1978 'Chair-o-Plane', a 'Steam Yacht' pirate ship ride from 1921 and a 'Toy Town' carousel from the 1930s.

We visited the fair in Kennington; with beautifully painted rides, stalls and attractions, including a coconut shy, high striker and archery range, it's a time-honoured experience for all ages.

Carters Steam Fair started in 1977 when John and Anna Carter bought the steam gallopers that the fair still operates now. It now travels around the country in vintage lorries and traditional showman's living wagons, bringing with it rides and side-stalls dating from the 1870s.

The fair is now on its way to Ravenscourt Park in Hammersmith on 21 and 22 May, then onto Maldon, Peckham, Stoke Newington and Dulwich.
