Inside London's Best Bike Shops: Brick Lane Bikes

What's the best bike shop in London? It's a hot debate, and one the London Cycling Awards hopes to settle this year.

To help you decide which you want to vote for, we're profiling the four nominees, starting with Brick Lane Bikes.

Who are Brick Lane Bikes?

Brick Lane Bikes is the dream of a former London street courier who wanted to create the UK's first all track bicycle shop. The dream quickly grew into Europe's mecca for fixed and vintage components.

As requests grew for hard-to-source quality yet stylish components, the in-house brand BLB was launched, specialising in individuality and catering for people wanting bespoke bicycle parts and frames. The brand has now grown from the cycling world into the fashion world — it's collaborating on a capsule collection of cycling-specific clothing with H&M.

In their words, what makes the store so special?

The shop was founded on a passion for cycling. If you share our passion, you'll enjoy our store. We endeavour to make your experience as organic and easy as possible. We want to see our customers again; our relationship grown and the scene develop.

We offer same day repairs — we try to get people back on the road as soon as possible. We carry stock that transcends styles and genres; from early-90s mountain bikes to full carbon disc wheels — something for everyone. We've been extremely lucky to have been at the heart of London’s cycling scene since we opened 10 years ago.

What do Londoners think?

Steph says: "These guys are lovely. I went in with the idea of building a bike bit by bit. I left the shop with more information and advice I had hoped for, and now I have a banging bike that transforms each time I take it in there. If they can help, they will.

"They're a good bunch of people, and I've now joined a bike group through BLB which is growing my love for bikes."

Vote for your favourite bike shop and you could win a Bobbin bike — make your choices on the London Cycling Awards website.
