Celebrity casting is causing a massive problem for West End ticket prices, director Jamie Lloyd says in a stinging attack on Theatreland.
Speaking to The Stage, the former associate director at the Donmar Warehouse even said he felt some of his own tickets were too expensive, adding there was "no justification" for tickets costing over £100.
"There are a lot of companies and producers out there who will… effectively exploit the profile of actors in a show by charging tickets that are soaring way past the £100 mark, which I think is outrageous," he said.
Lloyd added celebrities should only be cast in productions that challenge them (his production of Doctor Faustus features Kit Harington), rather than following the "blueprint" that exists for big name actors.
