Use the Metropolitan line between Aldgate and Wembley Park? From 16 May, for at least two years, trains won't run after 10pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

It's so Transport for London can replace 6.4km of track between Baker Street and Finchley Road, which is currently prone to flooding. TfL says the alternative to these early evening closures would be a full six months of track closure. Which probably won't be much comfort as you stumble out of the pub at 10.15pm.

The Circle and Hammersmith and City lines will still run between Aldgate and Baker Street, and you can take the slower Jubilee line from Baker Street to Wembley Park.

Work should be finished by late 2018, according to posters appearing at stations now.
