In Pictures: Saturday's Rally For Refugees

The political heart of London was swelled with people on Saturday, as tens of thousands marched on Parliament, showing their solidarity for refugees wanting to escape the hardships of their own countries.

Supporters of the cause held banners aloft  bearing mottos such as 'Protect people not borders' and 'Will swap Katie Hopkins for refugees'.

The rally coincided with the election of Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn as leader of the Labour party. One of Corbyn's first moves was to show his own support for the cause, saying:

...above all, open your hearts and open your minds and open your attitude towards supporting people who are desperate, who need somewhere safe to live, want to contribute to our society, and are human beings just like all of us.

Here are some of the best pictures of the rally, taken from the Londonist Flickr pool. With thanks to Andy Worthington (and again, and again), The Weekly Bull (and again and again), DAVID HOLT (and again), Richard Gordon, Stewart Marsden, Darren Johnson / iDJ Photography, Judy and Ravi.
