The annual Mencap Dodgeball Championships, the UK's biggest fancy dress dodgeball tournament, heads north this year to a new home in Finsbury Park.
Anyone can get involved with the day-long tournament, provided they have enough willing and able friends; teams require six players and two substitutes, with a rule that there must be at least one female player from each team playing at all times.
'What's the catch?', we hear you cry. Er, how do you feel about fancy dress? All team members are required to wear the same fancy dress costume, so get your imagination in gear and your sewing machine out, or prepare to get thrifting.
Prizes will be awarded for the winning team and the best dressed team.
Not the sporty type? No fear, it's not all about the dodgeball this year. A selection of street food vendors and craft beer stalls will be on hand to let you lend your support during the day, along with an auction. Throughout the day, Islington Social Crew — a team of DJs who all have a learning disability — provide the soundtrack, and the afterparty features a set from DJ Gentleman George.
The annual event raises money to support people with a learning disability, as well as their families and carers.

Mencap's Team Dodgeball Championships take place in Finsbury Park on 5 September. Entry costs £27.50 before 2o July, or £32.50 from 21 July. After party/spectator tickets are £10.
