Show Your Support On Armed Forces Day

This Saturday venues across the country will be marking Armed Forces Day, when communities can show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community — from troops currently serving to service families, veterans and cadets.

Several events are taking place in London; parades to fundraisers and fun days. The biggest event is at Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich. Running 11am-6pm, it's combined with the Great Get Together Festival for a day of live music, Armed Forces stalls, vintage cars, a Nepalese community marquee, veterans' parade, band of Gurkhas, dog, falconry and llama handling displays. Entry is free.

In Merton, Armed Forces Day begins with a flag-raising ceremony outside the Civic Centre, followed by a parade through the town, culminating in a multi-faith service at St Lawrence Church. There's also a parade in Romford, along South Street and into Market Place, with a mayoral salute along the way.

In Sutton, a family fun day raises money for Help For Heroes, with dance displays and workshops, music, a cake sale, bouncy castle, face painting, and more.

Chingford holds a bumper bundle of events, with a parade and fun day, followed by a cabaret night, followed by a sponsored march and walk on Sunday.
