If you were up bright and early yesterday morning (7 June), with eyes cast to the skies over London, you probably enjoyed the rare sight of nearly 50 hot air balloons rising alongside the sun and gliding serenely across the skyline.

The balloon flotilla (blotilla?) was the first mass ascent balloon flight over London for 20 years. Organised by Executive Ballooning, the display was a stunt to raise both money and awareness for The Lord Mayor's Appeal — a charity that over the last few decades has raised millions of pounds for good causes recommended by successive Lord Mayors. This year, the two main beneficiaries are Scope and Mencap.

Did you spot them? Please feel free to share your photos with us via our Flickrpool, on Twitter @londonist or our Facebook page.

Thank you to Ian Wylie and A Christy for uploading their beautiful shots to our Londonist Flickrpool.
