Theatreland's annual free tickets for kids giveaway kicks off at 10am on Tuesday. If you're entertaining children under 16 this August and fancy taking them to a show, this is your dream ticket.

More than 40 different London theatre shows are taking part in the month-long scheme (the old 'Kids Week' moniker really needs an update) offering a free ticket for anyone under 16 when accompanied by an adult paying full price. Two extra children's tickets can then be bought at half price, per transaction.

Shows taking part include a real mixture: from West End classics like War Horse, Mamma Mia and Les Mis to magic (Impossible), dance (Stomp) and first theatre shows for tinies — The Gruffalo, The 3 Pigs and many more. If you're after one of the more popular titles (Matilda, we're looking at you), make sure you start early: last year, 85,336 tickets were sold in the first 24 hours.

In addition to the free theatre tickets, there are also workshops and activities for budding theatre fans. You can learn to dance with Billy Elliot, make puppets with Pinocchio, or quiz stars like Stephen Merchant and Steffan Rhodri in post-show Q&A sessions.

Kids Week runs from 1-31 August. Tickets go on sale at 10am, Tuesday 16 June. Visit kidsweek.co.uk for more info.
