London folk are a creative bunch, so it's little surprise that some of the coolest properties available to rent on Airbnb are clever conversions. From cosy camper trucks in Dalston to converted churches in Highgate, Airbnb has some truly inspiring properties for you to relax in, and explore the surrounding locale from.

Cosy Camper in Central Dalston

Artist Tony Hornecker has created this rustic-looking camper van just outside his Dalston studio (he'll let you use his bathroom and kitchen). The van has a double bed, living room, and a general ambience of cosiness. What's more, it's located in a quiet alley, so you'll get a good night's sleep, yet it's also just around the corner from some of London's coolest going out spots.

Yurt in Highgate

There can't be TOO many yurts with excellent tube access, but this particular one is just a few minutes' walk from Highgate station — ideal for access into central London via the Northern line. Katherine's spacious yurt offers the perfect combination of great outdoors and all mod cons — snooze amongst the trees, yet still enjoy a kettle, small fridge, wireless internet, and nearby shower. Oh, and if you're lucky, you'll get a visit from resident moggies Rocky and Flash.

Church Conversion in Highbury

Sleeping in church is usually a big no-no, but this stunning conversion in Highbury proves an exception to the rule. A sunny, open-plan living space forms the centre of the unique apartment, which has an extra comfy double bed and accommodates up to three. Other perks include a premium sofa bed, fibre optic broadband and a wireless music system — with which you can listen to some Revered Al Green, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, or anything else that tickles your fancy. Guests have full access to the flat including all kitchen facilities, and Highbury and Islington station is only a short walk away. Amen.

London Bridge Loft

Owning a loft conversion with views of the Shard and Tower Bridge is something most of us would love, but could never afford. Thanks to Airbnb though, you can at least have a taste of the high life, with this jaw-dropping London Bridge loft conversion. In a former life, this place was a jam factory; now it's an open plan apartment with a large double bedroom, and another area divided into kitchen, studio, dining space and chill-out zone. The apartment is so capacious, it can fit four. There's also a flat screen TV and free wi-fi — but let's face it, you'll be spending most of your time on the Juliet balcony, marvelling at the views.

Shoreditch Warehouse

Enjoy the run of this entire apartment in Shoreditch, a recently converted warehouse with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, free wi-fi, and bright and breezy open plan living. And if you think the inside's impressive, wait till you explore the local area —Hoxton Square, Brick Lane, Columbia Road Market — some of the trendiest places in London. There are full cooking and washing facilities, though you may well be enjoying yourself too much to get round to using them.

North Kensington Water Tower

You've probably never seen anything like it — an old water tower that's been given a total overhaul — studded with windows that give incredible views over the canal and towpaths of North Kensington. This cylindrical room in the sky comes equipped with kitchenette, a generous bathroom with full size bath, and double bed. Two other similar rooms can also be rented in the same water tower. As for getting your jollies locally, you're just five minutes' stroll to Portobello Road with its legendary antique markets and food stalls, and 15 minutes from Notting Hill Gate. Or just stay at home and watch the houseboats drift by your window.
