Spend your lunch break at the Grant Museum of Zoology and hear Misha Ewen, co-curator of the Strange Creatures exhibition, talk in detail about one particular object from the museum. She'll also be detailing her work on the history of the first colonists to settle in Virginia and the animals they encountered. Free, just turn up, 1pm-2pm

The Harry Potter Warner Bros Studios in Watford stay open late. Stroll through sets like the Gryffindor common room and Dumbledore's office. INTERNATIONAL WRITERS:
Working Men's College Library in Camden is the venue for an evening of readings celebrating international writers, including Hassan Abdulrazzak, who will be reading from his one man show Love, Bombs and Apples, and Viola Di Grado, who reads from her latest novel, The Hollow Heart. SPANISH THEATRE:
The Spanish Theatre Company presents Nina (performed in English) at Canada Water Culture Space. Nina returns to the seaside town she grew up in, and spending the night with an old friend, realises that life doesn't always turn out the way we hoped. £8, prebook, 7.30pm

UKRAINIAN MUSIC:
Ukrainian music meets Western Indie pop/rock at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen, when The Ukrainians take to the stage. This gig follows the release of their new album, A History of Rock Music in Ukrainian,  a collection of British and American classic rock and pop songs re-interpreted with an eastern European twist.  £14, prebook, 7.30pm

THE GOONIES:
Watch a screening of 1980s classic The Goonies in an underground shaft at the Brunel Museum in Rotherhithe. £20 (including cocktail from the Midnight Apothecary), prebook, 8pm

BRIXTON BOOGALOO:
Kick off the long weekend with some '70s Havana as The Cuban Brothers take to the stage at The Prince of Wales in Brixton. Expect a mashup of music, comedy and  dance moves with tunes inspired by Cuban history and mythology. Age 18+.  £12.5o, 9pm

LATE NIGHT MAGIC:
Night owls should head to the Jermyn Street Theatre near Piccadilly Circus for a performance by magician in residence Richard Leigh. Alongside the magic, expect comedy, illusion and cabaret. £10, 10.45pm

Good Cause of the Day

Beyond Food, the organisation behind social enterprise restaurant Brigade on Tooley Street, has launched a cookbook amnesty. The organisation is encouraging people to give up their unused cookery books and give them to chef apprentices who have experienced homelessness and are unable to afford their own.
