Tasty news for south London foodies: 3-7 June sees the return of the Streatham Food Festival. This veritable community feast is crammed with events, workshops and pop-up stalls. Here's what's happening.

The Streatham Food Tour is the perfect excuse to jump on a bus bound for SW16. From 4-6 June, restaurants are offering a tasting menu for under £5 a dish. A score card is provided so that wannabe John Torodes can rate their favourites as they go along. Mediterranean deli Fish Tale won the competition last year and is back hoping to reclaim its title, but there's strong competition, with 31 other places taking part, including newcomers Hood and Café Barcelona.

As usual, Streatham Market is open from 10am-3pm on the Saturday, but with an expanded mix of local produce, hot food stalls, and a side of flamenco and blues music. For those who want to get practical, there's a food growing session with Edible Hillside on 6 June. and a Bring and Bake session at Elephant Bakehouse the following day.

For families, The Sunday Food Fair on Streatham Green supplies plenty of non-food distractions as well as tasty bites: face painting, a schools cookery competition, a demo tent, a smoothie bike and live music. On the stalls you'll find curry and dosa from Goan Street Kitchen, Pakistani street food from Bun Kebab and vegan options from Mean Green. Sweet treats are provided by Mon Dessert and for those in the mood, Drunken Dairy serve ice cream and sorbet versions of favourite tipples. Try the Rosie Cheeks (cider and mango sorbet) as well the classic GLT (gin, lime and tonic soda).

Elsewhere, local chef Noemi is serving Brünch Summer Feast on 4 June at Boyce da Roca featuring a seasonal menu pickled, baked and boiled up from her German roots, while mixologists from German Vermouth and Amaro brands Belsazar and Mondino prepare the cocktails. Apprentices from Jamie’s 15 will also be make an appearance, serving a menu of surplus and reclaimed food at Brixton People's Kitchen Festival Pop-up on the evening of 3 June.

A food tour map is enclosed in the festival programme, so that hungry bargain hunters can wander from place to place sampling everything from salmon tartare with gin fizz (from local boozer The Earl Ferrers) to garnished gizzard, at Nigerian restaurant 203 and everything in between. Streatham's cuisine scene has never looked so appetising.
