The Best London Museums To Follow On Instagram

The Museums at Night festival might be over for another season (it'll be back in October if you missed it this time) but you can still keep in touch with your favourite London museums 24/7 on Instagram. Here's our pick of the most popular, according to follower numbers*.

10. Royal Museums Greenwich

Comprising the National Maritime Museum, Royal Observatory, The Queen's House and the Cutty Sark, RMG's 850 followers are treated to gorgeous architecture and some cool shots of that famous clipper.

9. London Transport Museum

Join LTM's 930 Instagram followers for snaps of transport posters, classic design, teasers from LTM Lates and buses. Lots of buses.

8. Imperial War Museums

The family of five museums (including our city's IWM London, Churchill War Rooms and HMS Belfast) have 1,265 Instagram followers. There's plenty of poignant #onthisday action here to reflect on.

7. Horniman Museum and Gardens

The Horniman's 3,120 followers can view images as varied as the museum providing them. Taxidery, tea, teeth, and of course, that walrus.

6. Wellcome Collection

The Wellcome Collection entertains more than 3,500 followers with Instagrams inspired by sex, sculpture, interior stills and staircases.

5. Natural History Museum

With over 5,500 followers, the NHM takes fifth position in our chart. Some of its popular tags include #TaxonomyTuesday and #FossilFriday. Plenty of beautiful butterflies to swoon over at this time of year too.

4. Science Museum

Almost 17,000 followers can contemplate prisms, skulls and satellite images from the Science Museum's Instagram stream.

3. Design Museum

London's Design Museum Instagram feed has 23,000 followers enjoying behind-the-scenes updates on exhibition design, signage and yet more staircases.

The V&A's 81,000 Instagram followers suck up a sexy stream of historical nuggets, retro exhibitions and current fashion and design trends from London's great cathedral of art and design.

1. British Museum

The top spot goes to arguably London's most famous museum. With 112,000 followers, the British Museum's Instagram feed could be described as 'of the world, for the world.' Plenty of #onthisday action here, and the images are as varied as the museum inspiring them.
