Georgian London is often painted as a place of revelry, bawdiness and bonhomie — a city of taverns, chop houses and coffee shops. A chance to step back into that world is coming your way in June.

The Georgian Dining Academy takes over Simpson's Tavern on 11 June. Hosts Kitty Pridden and Mrs B conduct an evening of conviviality, carousing and face-stuffing at this truly special venue. Trading since 1757, Simpson's is London's oldest chop house. It never opens in the evening, so this is a rare chance to see the panelled interior by candlelight. The night includes a three-course meal, wine and port, plus performances by some 'intriguing characters' from Georgian London. Book before 17 May for the earlybird price of £60, thereafter rising to £68. Dressing as a Georgian is encouraged but not mandatory.
