Build A Minecraft London At Southbank Web Festival

Create your own Southbank Centre using Minecraft at Web We Want.

There's a chance to hear from the man credited with the invention of the world wide web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, experts in the 'dark web' and counter terrorism, and much more this weekend — in the final instalment of a festival dedicated to the 'net.

Web We Want also includes a retro gaming room, to relive those heady days spent trying to defeat Dr Robotnik; and for younger gamers, there's an opportunity to build a Minecraft Royal Festival Hall.

Among talks and debates this weekend will be a look at how independent publishers are succeeding, featuring Londonist's MD Lindsey Clarke, Drowned in Sound's Sean Adams and Popjustice founder Peter Robinson. There are also discussions on what the web would look like if it was run by women, a workshop on how to improve your blog, and various discussions on the impact of the internet on creativity and privacy.

On 30 May comedian James Veitch performs his solo comedy show about his year spent replying to as many scam emails as possible, from unclaimed insurance bonds to Nigerian princes; while other shows will come from all-female, anarchic performance group, Gaggle, and pioneering musician Gwilym Gold.

Web We Want runs until 31 May at the Southbank Centre. Some events are free, others ticketed. For the full programme, see the website.
