New Short Film And Funding Awarded For #Boroughs50

1 April 2015 marked 50 years since the creation of Greater London and the establishment of the 32 boroughs. London Councils has released another short film about the important roles boroughs play in serving Londoners.

While we're here, let's also say congratulations to three outer boroughs that have been awarded Heritage Lottery Funding for anniversary projects (it's not too late for your borough to apply for funding):

Barking and Dagenham has been a cheerleader for this golden milestone with preparation starting last year. It received £10,000 for a fashion fun day at its libraries in February but has so much more planned for 2015, including music festivals, bunting and a community day.

Richmond also got its act together early and received £9,400 for Joined by the River, which will celebrate the formation of the only borough that spans both sides of the Thames. The money funds research and oral history projects, education, a community programme and an exhibition at Orleans House Gallery.

Finally, Redbridge gets £10,000 for a sharing heritage project and has put a call out for photos of the area past and present. There's more information about plans for a vintage film festival, tea dance and open house style events across the borough on this special webpage.

Several other boroughs have announced celebratory events to unfold over the rest of the year as well as some dedicated websites stacked with borough history and information — we rounded up as many as we'd heard of in our anniversary article.

Follow #boroughs50 and share your local memories, favourite borough things and events.
